(MILWAUKEE, WI) – Voces de la Frontera Action (VDLF Action) has endorsed acting Mayor Cavalier Johnson for Milwaukee Mayor. The endorsement was made after Mayor Johnson met with VDLF Action members this past Saturday at their new office on Milwaukee’s south side, in which he expressed his support for immigrant and Latinx communities in Milwaukee. Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of VDLF Action said, “Cavalier Johnson is the best candidate for Milwaukee’s immigrant and working families. As an alderman, he supported the city of Milwaukee ID and ending collaboration between ICE and police. He supports a $15 an hour minimum wage and restoring universal driver education in our schools. He has committed to work with Voces  in a meaningful and collaborative way and understands the issues that impact Black, Latinx and immigrant working class families in our city.”

“On the other hand, his opponent is just another Trump: a reckless, shameless racist who opposed our efforts to separate the role of law enforcement from ICE and described Black Lives Matter activists as thugs. Milwaukee deserves better,” said Neumann-Ortiz.

“It’s an honor to have the support of the members of Voces de la Frontera Action, and I promise to do right by our neighbors every day I’m in office,” said Mayor Johnson. “Our vision is to build a world-class city, which requires us to be welcoming to immigrant families.”

“We must ensure that every resident can participate fully in every element of our city’s life,” continued Mayor Johnson. “That means having a strong commitment to public education, driving forward policies that fully support immigrants like access to drivers’ licenses and in-state tuition, and promoting civic and voter engagement. Voces de La Frontera Action has been a tremendous advocate for inclusion and dignity, and I look forward to partnering with you throughout my term in office.”

In addition to endorsing Mayor Johnson, VDLF Action has also endorsed two candidates running for the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors: Juan Miguel Martinez (District 12) and Eric Rorholm (District 3). For the Racine County Board of Supervisors, VDLF Action has endorsed five candidates: Tom Rutkowski (District 3), Eric Hopkins (District 9), Christian DeJung (District 15), Keith Cruise (District 17), and Judi Adams (District 21). In the Madison area, VDLF Action has endorsed Anthony Gray, candidate for Dane County Board of Supervisors District 4, and Joe Maldonado, Alderman in Fitchburg.
