About Us

Voces de la Frontera Action (VDLFA), a 501c4, stands as the driving force behind Wisconsin’s most expansive statewide Latine, immigrant, and BIPOC youth political engagement network. We champion immigrant and workers’ rights through strategic mobilization, grassroots relational organizing, and disciplined democratic political action to ensure the concerns and needs of immigrant workers and families are at the forefront of the political discourse.

Since 2004, VDLFA has pioneered year-round political engagement among Latines, who now represent the second-largest demographic in Wisconsin. Their sustained participation in civic activities not only influences electoral outcomes but also drives broader policy changes, playing a crucial role in transforming the state into a solid progressive stronghold.

In Wisconsin, 33,600 Latine voters have turned 18 and are eligible to vote since 2020, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. About 44,000 Latine voters in Wisconsin are high-opportunity voters (what the political industry calls low-propensity voters), which means they can be brought into the process if organizers reach out to them. Voces de la Frontera is recruiting 1,000 super volunteers, known as Voceros por el Voto, to contact their friends and family about registering and turning out to vote to reach 36,600 new or infrequent voters.

Mission

Our mission is to empower our communities through democratic political action and electoral engagement. We amplify their voices by advocating, organizing, and implementing policy initiatives, enabling them to champion immigrant and worker rights across all levels of government and throughout civil society.

Vision

We envision a world where all people live free of poverty and oppression, have access to quality education, jobs, and health care; where immigrants can cross borders with dignity; where human rights and worker’s rights are respected, where the government is truly “of the people”, and where all families thrive.

Foundational Principles

Deeply Democratic, Community Centric

Our work is rooted in a grassroots model aimed at strengthening democracy, promoting accountability, and ensuring our advocacy for immigrant and worker rights reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of the people we serve.

By centering the voices of our communities and guiding our decisions with the lived experiences of those directly affected, we foster participatory and empowered engagement.

Locally-Focused and Globally Conscious

We are part of a broader movement, recognizing that the struggles of immigrants in the U.S. are intertwined with those of immigrants worldwide. We understand that violence and oppression stem from a global system we collectively seek to replace and envision a new model founded on radical solidarity, human dignity, and a profound respect for our planet.

Small Victories, Big Purpose

We understand that combating racism and all forms of discrimination, centering the voices of marginalized people, and redistributing power requires resilience. Along this challenging journey, we recognize that while grit and disciplined work are essential for enacting meaningful change, we truly fuel our momentum through joy and shared humanity.

Recent history

The key to Voces de la Frontera Action’s success is the trust that our organizers and Voceros build year-round, whether an election is coming up or not, with Latine and immigrant workers, including dairy workers, meat packing workers, construction and other essential workers in rural areas.

In 2020, Voces de la Frontera Action was a critical deciding factor for the Latino vote in the presidential election, and the 23,000 votes it took to flip our key swing state from red to blue.

In the 2022 elections, Voces de la Frontera Action’s statewide organizing contributed to a 4% increase in Latine voters and a historic 172% increase in early Latine voting, according to internal data from the Analyst Institute. That year we defeated MAGA candidate Tim Michels, running for Wisconsin Governor.

In 2023, we helped secure the election of Judge Janet Protasiewicz, which tipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court to a liberal majority, opening up the opportunity to challenge GOP-controlled gerrymandered maps.
